THE SIDE SLIDE
To perform the single ski side slide (worth 40 points in competition), assume the straight ahead skiing position as shown in Photo1, knees slightly bent, back straight and elbows slightly bent. Next rotate the hips to the open side (rotate counter clockwise looking down for left foot forward) and the ski will slide perpendicular to the direction of travel. While in the side slide, the skiing resistance will decrease and the ski will feel very slippery.
Stand over the ski to prevent a slide out. Rotate the hips back into the skiing position (Photo 3). Continue rotating the hips (clockwise looking downward for left foot forward) into the reverse side slide position or closed position
as shown in Photo 4. Again, the side sliding ski feels very slippery and requires less backward lean than
that required in the skiing position. Return to the forward skiing position (Photo 5) and complete the reverse side slide for a total of 80 points.
